Sunday Notes -
BREAKING NEWS -- The front and side of our church building was hit by "graffiti artists" either Friday or Saturday nights. We're having a paint-scrubbing to try to clean it off Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. Bring pressure washers if you have them, scrub brushes, etc. If several show up, we hope to get things looking good again in short order.
FROM SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER REQUESTS:
"Please pray for Brandon Bieland who was in a motorcycle accident. He has broken pelvis and leg, also bleeding on the brain. He is in Harborview Hospital. He is the great-nephew of Tom and Judy Fair."
"Please keep all the people of Haiti in all your prayers. They need all the help, encouragement, and prayers you can give." -- Olivia Blunt
"We are thankful to God for hearing our prayers and the answers we see around us. Please pray for Cathi's sister Tracy who is having chemo. Other problems have come up this past week; pray for us to have wisdom and discernment as we help her. Please pray for peace and comfort for Rodney's family in the loss of his cousin. Lastly, pray for Cati, and all of the young adults who are struggling spiritually and trying to find their way in this world." -- the Adams family
Asking for continued prayers for Tami Beach as she receives medical treatment this month.
"Please pray for our family situation. Jon does not seem to understand the situation clearly." -- Karen Hasenoehrl
Prayer request for the Hasenoehrl family and for Jim & Diana Miller
"Please be praying for Alma Jones -- she is sick with a cold. . . Also thank you for this family, I am so grateful for your presence in my life." -- Becky Williamson
Please pray for the Brisky family, for Darlene Stuber, Bev Waltenbaugh, and others. Pray for Gilbert as he goes to visit Roberta, and for Ruth Lake, Elmer & Martha, Vivian, Ted Thompson, and all of our ill. Pray for those who sprayed the building -- maybe someone can find them and encourage them to know there is a better way. Pray for Cathi Adams's family, and for her sister to heal. Pray for the Hill family, and all who are hurting.

Haiti Update - January 22
Our team of six made it to Roberta's this evening. This puts more medical people and our construction crew on site. Several tons of food (rice, beans, spaghetti, oil, etc.) were purchased in bulk from a warehouse in Santo Domingo today, and will arrive gradually over the next week. Your gifts are feeding people already!

Haiti Update - January 21
From Jesse Robertson at the Estes, TN church:
I spoke with Roberta this morning (Thursday). They have already distributed over 2000 lbs. of rice as well as other food. Two physicians are schedule to arrive today, and other medical and construction workers tomorrow. She describes the situation in Port au Prince as very grim.
------------
Roberta called tonight. Five American workers, at least three of whom are physicians, are there now. She is planning a "mini-clinic" at her house tomorrow, so say a prayer for everyone to behave courteously. The six men we sent out on Wednesday are coming in by bus from Santo Domingo tomorrow, and should be at her house by 5:00 p.m. Before we organize the next team, we are waiting to see how this goes and determine the personnel needs.

Haiti Update
We have sent a contribution from the Skagit Valley Church of Christ to the Estes Church of Christ in Tennessee to assist with the relief work they are doing in Haiti. Estes has been supporting an orphanage. Roberta, a worker with the orphanage, has been sending regular reports. Some of these will be copied and posted here from time to time:
First of all – Roberta and kids felt the big aftershock this morning, went out of the house, but nobody was harmed and no damage was done.
Secondly, here’s a note from Roberta yesterday:
Today, Richard and I took a turn around the city. Not very long but very sad. People are doing their best to leave the city and go out to the country. Wounded are on the side of the road not far from the dead. People are begging every motorist to please give them a free ride "somewhere." They don’t care where you are going, they just want to get out of town.
I spoke with the preacher in Citie Soliel today. The church building is destroyed. Members of the church are sleeping in a field. I gave them one of our carport tents that Global Manna donated. It is 12 X 20 and should provide cover for many. We hope to bring food to them tomorrow at the latest. The preacher is trying to help with logistics so that we can deliver the food safely and efficiently.
My girls bagged 800 lbs of rice today and put it in bags to be distributed. They are putting soap, combs, shoes, matches and a few other odds and ins to help those in need. We will send these out tomorrow I can only pray.
We prepared 50 bags to leave where the dog food spilled the other evening [referencing Thomas’s email from yesterday]. I look forward to seeing their faces this time when something falls of the truck.
Praising Him,
Roberta
Thirdly – the first Estes medical/construction team leaves today. We’re hoping to have a report from them with their evaluations Thursday or Friday.
Thank you so much for your continued interest in Haiti. May God be glorified through our efforts.

20/10 Vision
20/10 Vision in 2010 will be a recurring theme during this new year. Sunday morning's sermon introduces the theme by talking about the need we all have for 'better than average' spiritual vision. We'll talk about how to get that kind of perception. 10:30 a.m. at Skagit Valley Church of Christ, following Bible classes at 9:30.
Sunday night's sermon will be "Prayer and Faith." 6 p.m.
Condolences to Judy Hill
Judy sent out the following email Friday evening:
I just received the dreaded phone call. My brother passed from this world just before 9:30 this evening. I want to thank you all for your prayers, notes and love. My heart is breaking, but my Lord Jesus is my strength and comfort.
My love to you all,

January 1
One of my new year's resolutions is to do a better job posting updates to the Skagit Valley Church of Christ blog.
On January 1st, 2010, I wish for anyone reading this the best possible new year. God's blessings are great. May all of us be gracious recipients of those blessings throughout the coming year and beyond.
Please keep Judy Hill and her extended family in your prayers as Judy's brother, Dwayne Mackey is seriously ill in California. He appears to be nearing the end of his battle with cancer.
