Follow-up about Marge

Trish and I visited Marge Easley in Skagit Valley Hospital this afternoon. She said she had wanted to keep the news from church folks so no one would worry about her, but I think she was glad to know that people were praying for her. She fainted Monday, falling and giving both her eyes nice shiners. She also cut her nose, resulting in profuse bleeding apparently. The good news is that she was not seriously injured. She called 911 because she called her doctor and they told her that it was not safe for her to drive herself to the hospital after having fainted. She is being kept in the hospital while the doctors run tests trying to find the reason for her fainting. Perhaps she will be able to go home Wednesday, depending on what the tests show.

Marge Easley

We have learned that Marge Easley is in Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon after being hurt in a fall Monday. We should have updated information later in the afternoon, but wanted to make anyone who checks this blog aware of the need to remember Marge in our prayers.

"Pray for Jon Hasenoehrl and the Hasenoehrl family."

We also received several cards expressing gratitude to Kirk Garrison for the fine job he does operating the Power Point presentation for services. Quoting from one, "Your silent service is very much appreciated and is an inspiration for us all."

Remember to invite at least five guests for our Homecoming next Sunday.

Will you participate in the Light into the Darkness campaign to read the New Testament through between now and the time we return to Daylight Savings Time next March 13?  You need read only 15 chapters per week to accomplish that goal.  It takes very little of your time; just a consistent commitment to spend five minutes or so each day reading the Bible.

Family Harvest Party - October 30

Dear Church Family:
We hope you are planning on attending the Family Harvest Party this year!
We had some sign-up sheets in the hallway at church; unfortunately, due to some severe pain issues I have been having, I haven't been to church to check those sign-up sheets.
If you signed up for something on the sign-up sheet, please e-mail and let me know what you signed up for.

If you have NOT signed up already, I'm sure you're wondering, "HOW CAN I HELP?"Thank you for asking!!  Your help & support will be a great blessing to us!!

There are several ways to help:
1.  Sign up to help with an activity station. (more info. below)
2.  Bring some needed supplies (plain sugar cookies, frosting, sprinkles, donuts, roasted pumpkin seeds).
3.  Make a monetary donation to help cover expenses for prizes & supplies.
4.  I need someone to make a gift basket for the adult costume prize winner.
5.  We will need some help setting up & decorating on the day of the party.

THREE THINGS TO REMEMBER:1.  Wear a costume!  There will be prizes for kids & adults!
2.  If you want to join the pumpkin carving/painting, you need to BRING YOUR OWN PUMPKIN (and your favorite carving supplies if you wish!).
3.  PLEASE TELL US HOW MANY KIDS YOU ARE BRINGING.  We are handing out special treats at the end of the party, and we want to have enough for all the children.

More details are listed below...If you have any questions, feel free to email me. I look forward to hearing from each and every one of you!
Cathi & Melissa =)

FAMILY HARVEST CELEBRATIONSaturday, October 30

This is for the whole family...bring your kids, grandkids and friends!

This year's party is being planned a little differently and we need your help so it will run smoothly!  Most of the activities will take place in the auditorium.  The exceptions will be the MAZE, created by Jacob in the kitchen; and the Pumpkin Carving/Painting in the foyer.  The doors to the auditorium will open at 6:00 P.M.

The kids will rotate to different stations from 6:00 to 7:15.  At 7:15 we will have some races and then end at 8:00 p.m.
We need people to supervise stations from 6:00 to 7:15.  All supplies will be provided.

Bob suffered a heart attack this Saturday three weeks ago and the following Monday he had a stroke, he was at Skagit Hospital for five days then they transferred him to Swedish where he is now.   They just transferred him to Rehab and today just started working with him.  He is paralized on his left side since his stroke was on the left.  He can move some of his left arm and has not been able to move his left leg.  They have high hopes for him and so do I he is a very determined man when he sets his mind.
Results of the heart attack is congestive heart failure so he will be put on a special diet.  I am staying in Seattle in order to be close with him, Please pray for Bob, my thanks to you all.

Prayer Requests and Updates - Wednesday July 28

Martha Juntenen is not doing well. She is now under hospice care and seems to be losing strength. Please keep her, Elmer, and their family in your prayers.

Casey Picinich is recovering from a cyst removal. All went well with the procedure.

Casey's grandmother has a broken hip and will have surgery on Friday.

Jim Gibbs (friend of the Blunt family) had a bone marrow biopsy. Results will tell whether or not further treatment is possible for him.

Please pray for our unemployed (Craig Pitner, Allen Burke, and Trevor Hasenoehrl) as well as everyone looking for jobs.

Becky Williamson asks prayers for herself in dealing with her mom, with worry and tension, and adjusting to new conditions. She also asks prayers for her son Robb Williamson who had oral surgery today, and for his healing and stress relief.

Continued prayers are asked by Ethan Hasenoehrl for his dad, Jon.

Please remember Andy and Cathi Adams in prayer as they continue to deal with a variety of health and related problems.

Pray for Faith Williamson as her broken arm heals.

Pray for Leta Pollock, who has had several falls recently. She has not been seriously injured, but her tendency to suffer falls has raised concern about her safety in living alone.

The Blunts ask for our prayers for Baby Sophia (the baby they are adopting in China).  Please pray for a quick adoption process.

Olivia Blunt asks prayers for her friend, Carson, to be able to understand more about God and the gospel.

Rentz Gullick asks prayers for Jean. She is recovering from a urinary infection and had a bone scan today.

Prayers were requested for our nation, its leaders, and our troops in places of danger around the world.

Rentz Gullick

Rentz is recuperating at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon (Room 1016) after having an appendectomy done during the night Thursday night. He had not been feeling well during the day Thursday and finally went to the ER. Tests showed that his appendix was "leaking." The surgeon was able to remove it with laparoscopy so he does not have a major incision to heal.  Since Rentz lives alone, he may be kept in the hospital a little longer than he otherwise would, perhaps until Sunday. Keep him in your prayers.

Also, keep Makyra Williamson in your prayers today. She is undergoing spinal surgery in Oregon today. She is the oldest daughter of Darren & Melody and the granddaughter of Joe and Becky.

Looking Ahead to Next Sunday's Sermons

Since we had a guest speaker yesterday (Kenny Pearson) and have a guest speaker scheduled for June 6, I am really looking forward to preaching this Sunday, May 30th. Monday is normally my time to get things planned out and organized and get started with the serious studying for the next Sunday's sermons. This post will share the titles (subject to change) for Sunday's preaching. I need you to be praying with me for my study and preparation this week that I can get ready to preach messages that are both biblical and relevant to the things we need to hear. Remember that praying for the preacher always makes the preaching better!

Although this is Memorial Day weekend, this year I will not be dealing with remembrance or memorials as a part of the topics. Instead, Sunday morning we'll look at "How to Believe."  Christians have to be believers; it's part of the job description. But a shallow faith is not sufficient to get us through all the adversity that life can throw at us. We need a disciplined, firmly-rooted faith in Jesus Christ.  Sunday, we will talk about five things we need to get ready before we can have that kind of faith.

Sunday night, we will continue looking at the theme of Confidence in the Bible. The third lesson in that series will be "What Science Teaches Us About Why We Should Believe the Bible."  It's a false notion that true science and the Bible conflict with one another. Some scientific theories do contradict biblical teaching, but scientific theories come and go. Real truth stays the same, and there are many scientific statements found in the Bible, although they are not necessarily written in scientific language. How did Bible writers know that science? Answering that question makes us consider more evidence for the Bible being a truly God-breathed book!

See you Sunday morning at 10:30 and Sunday night at 6:00.  We need you, and you need to be here! ...John Gaines
