Since we had a guest speaker yesterday (Kenny Pearson) and have a guest speaker scheduled for June 6, I am really looking forward to preaching this Sunday, May 30th. Monday is normally my time to get things planned out and organized and get started with the serious studying for the next Sunday's sermons. This post will share the titles (subject to change) for Sunday's preaching. I need you to be praying with me for my study and preparation this week that I can get ready to preach messages that are both biblical and relevant to the things we need to hear. Remember that praying for the preacher always makes the preaching better!
Although this is Memorial Day weekend, this year I will not be dealing with remembrance or memorials as a part of the topics. Instead, Sunday morning we'll look at "How to Believe." Christians have to be believers; it's part of the job description. But a shallow faith is not sufficient to get us through all the adversity that life can throw at us. We need a disciplined, firmly-rooted faith in Jesus Christ. Sunday, we will talk about five things we need to get ready before we can have that kind of faith.
Sunday night, we will continue looking at the theme of Confidence in the Bible. The third lesson in that series will be "What Science Teaches Us About Why We Should Believe the Bible." It's a false notion that true science and the Bible conflict with one another. Some scientific theories do contradict biblical teaching, but scientific theories come and go. Real truth stays the same, and there are many scientific statements found in the Bible, although they are not necessarily written in scientific language. How did Bible writers know that science? Answering that question makes us consider more evidence for the Bible being a truly God-breathed book!
See you Sunday morning at 10:30 and Sunday night at 6:00. We need you, and you need to be here! ...John Gaines
