Sympathy
We have just learned that Cathi Adams' sister, Tracy, died Monday night. She had fought a valiant battle against cancer. Please keep that entire family in your prayers.
Wednesday Night Classes This Week
We normally have a Work Night after the devotional period on the last Wednesday nights of the month. However, due to the fact that we had a Work Day last Saturday, we will be varying the schedule this week. Wednesday classes will go on as usual. The Auditorium Class will continue its study of James chapter 1. See you Wednesday night ... potluck at 6 p.m. followed by devotional at 6:45, with classes following that.

Looking Ahead to Next Sunday's Sermons
Since we had a guest speaker yesterday (Kenny Pearson) and have a guest speaker scheduled for June 6, I am really looking forward to preaching this Sunday, May 30th. Monday is normally my time to get things planned out and organized and get started with the serious studying for the next Sunday's sermons. This post will share the titles (subject to change) for Sunday's preaching. I need you to be praying with me for my study and preparation this week that I can get ready to preach messages that are both biblical and relevant to the things we need to hear. Remember that praying for the preacher always makes the preaching better!
Although this is Memorial Day weekend, this year I will not be dealing with remembrance or memorials as a part of the topics. Instead, Sunday morning we'll look at "How to Believe." Christians have to be believers; it's part of the job description. But a shallow faith is not sufficient to get us through all the adversity that life can throw at us. We need a disciplined, firmly-rooted faith in Jesus Christ. Sunday, we will talk about five things we need to get ready before we can have that kind of faith.
Sunday night, we will continue looking at the theme of Confidence in the Bible. The third lesson in that series will be "What Science Teaches Us About Why We Should Believe the Bible." It's a false notion that true science and the Bible conflict with one another. Some scientific theories do contradict biblical teaching, but scientific theories come and go. Real truth stays the same, and there are many scientific statements found in the Bible, although they are not necessarily written in scientific language. How did Bible writers know that science? Answering that question makes us consider more evidence for the Bible being a truly God-breathed book!
See you Sunday morning at 10:30 and Sunday night at 6:00. We need you, and you need to be here! ...John Gaines

Benefit for Jim Gibbs
Jim Gibbs is not a member of the Skagit Valley church, but he has been on our prayer list for quite a long time. He and his family are close friends of the Blunts. A benefit benefit concert planned for Jim Gibbs, Friday, May 22nd, at Bethany Covenant Church in Mt. Vernon. The Gibbs are facing a lot of expenses while Jim is fighting leukemia and many of his friends and family have put together a wonderful night of music to help raise money for them. There are no ticket sales, but there will be a free will offering. Please see Karee Blunt if you have questions, or would like to make a donation if you can't attend.
Madeline Blunt will be playing her harp and Olivia Blunt will be singing, along with numerous other friends of Mr. Gibbs.
